Early in my career, I was the conference editor for IndustryWeek magazine. My job was to fly around the country meeting executives and CEOs from Fortune 100 manufacturing firms to encourage them to ditch the canned corporate speech and deliver something original for our audience.

I was young and in over my head, so I asked questions and listened. Leaders want to tell original stories. The key for me was to help them understand what our audience needed to hear.
